Playroom Renovation

A big shout out of thanks for the thoughtfulness and giving hearts of Desert Skies United Methodist Church! We shared a project idea with them and the project was done in no time.

Play Room Panorama

Children come to the center to share what could be the most devastating thing in their lives; whether it is their story of neglect, physical or sexual abuse, or having witnessed violence.

To assure that the child’s needs are met the center has a goal to provide a safe, child friendly spot for investigations and healing.  We have several rooms but one is a special playroom that children come to immediately following their forensic interview.  It is there that I try my best to meet their immediate needs, which  includes handing out donated stuffed animals, snacks, offering smiles and laughs to just PLAYING!

Of course quality, positive time is the best, but what’s better than safe, quality time PLAYING? I had many ideas flooding my Pinterest-loving mind. Once I shared my hand drawn idea map with the group, they didn’t even question, they just made it happen.  The church has donated many hours of their time to design, build and paint!

Our playroom now is a woodland themed room complete with a Lego wall, a magnetic wall, a picnic table, a very large television and the most awesome toy wall cabinet in 10 states! The church not only donated the time for this project but donated the supplies for all of the ideas and the TV.  This allowed us to use grant money for TOYS, TOYS and more TOYS!

We are just so lucky to have been able to partner with Desert Skies in this project; it provided all of the staff here excitement in waiting for the finished product. Since then, children have had the opportunity for safe, quality playtime during their time of need. We have shared smiles and excitement with them in the new playroom that would make any of your hearts melt with joy!

“There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace.” — Kofi Annan
