Get Your Paws Wet!
Get out the sunblock, sunglasses, and big ‘ol hat, it’s time for one of my favorite summertime activities……SWIMMIMG!! Who doesn’t love splashing around, wagging your tail with friends, and a good game of Marco-Polo?!? Swimming is a great way to get some Vitamin D, exercise, and socialize with your buds. There is always some risks when getting your tail wet, however, and it’s important to be safe. Before diving in, it’s a good idea to review some pool safety tips both parents and kids should be aware of this summer:
- Children should be supervised at all times and young children should always stay in an adult’s arm’s reach
- Pools should be secured with appropriate barriers with a self-closing, self-latching gate. Put a safety cover on the pool when not in use and remove all ladders/steps.
- Enroll all children in age-appropriate swim classes and adults should take a CPR/first aid classes for emergencies. See website on classes- http://www.redcross.org
- Establish rules and safe behaviors for swimming, such as “no diving,” “swim buddy,” and “walking only”
Summertime if officially here so brush up on some safety rules and be smart my friends!
