thanksgiving

Hoooray-autumn has finally arrived in Tucson and the holiday season is in full swing!  If you’re anything like me, you’re looking forward to the upcoming festivities filled with….FOOD!!  If I’m lucky my family will “accidently” drop some savory turkey for me to sample.  With Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, and many other holidays quickly approaching, many families start to make travel plans to visit family, see friends, or just to escape the Arizona heat.  In order to have a safe, happy holiday season, please be sure to check out some of my important travel tips to keep in mind especially when traveling with kiddos.

Shots:  Be sure all vaccines are up-to-date and keep an immunization record on file

Airplane Travel:  Bring an FAA approved carseat to ensure safety, explain in advance the rules and procedures of going through security and expectation of behavior during the flight

Crib:  Bring your own portable one, as hotels may not be up-to-date on their standards

Car Seat:  Bring your own as not all countries require one and/or they may not be up to American standards (if traveling outside the U.S.)

Wash Hands:  Do this often and bring sanitation gel wherever you go

Control:  Be in control of your child(ren) at all times for their and others’ safety, bring games, activities and snacks to keep entertained, move around with the child, if needed, to get the “wiggles out,” be aware of your surroundings

Snacks:  Always have snack and water on hand for safety and entertainment

I know when I travel I can have a short attention span and get antsy- just like kids!  It’s always a good idea to plan ahead and have some activities to do in those long car rides, which can be draining for kids and parents alike!  Below are some simple, fun activities to keep kids occupied during travel.

-Pipe cleaners

-Coloring books

-Where’s Waldo/I spy

-Bring a ball- take a break and stretch your legs (this is my personal favorite!)

Have a safe and fun holiday season, my friends!

Your Buddy, Russell
